Melbourne vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Hamish Anderson is our latest indie discovery and we're pretty sure you guys are going to dig this talented chap, because we sure do! Hamish has just announced the release of his new single, Winter - a hauntingly beautiful ballad that shows elegant restraint and maturity well beyond Hamish’s youthful twenty-two years. With a tender melody and pretty folk guitar gently driving the song, it was Hamish's raw vocal delivery that really caught our attention. Winter will be avaliable on iTunes on December 6th but for the meantime you can have a listen to it here. We also suggest checking out the full EP here.

The Colourist are a four piece indie-pop band from Southern California with a majestic rock sound that we just can't get enough of. Having already toured with the likes of Grouplove, Atlas Genius and The Naked & Famous, as well as playing Coachella, these guys are well on their way to making a name for themselves. The band have just released their debut EP 'Lido', a sampling of their ability to write smart, engaging songs laced with hooks that leave you wanting more. We suggest you visit their website and head over to their soundcloud to have a listen to Lido for yourselves.
Achoo! Bless You was born in 2010 in a small bedroom in Sydney's Inner-West when two young things began making sweet tunes together. Ross's penchant for writing ridiculously good pop songs and Ash's extensive back-catalogue of failed romantic experiences proved the perfect combination for a girl/boy folk-pop duo. In such a short time, the duo have already supported some incredible local and international musicians including Passenger, Matthew Barber, Slow Club and Tim Rogers. 'Before We Say Goodbye', is the first single from their debut EP 'No Island' and we think it's pretty freakin' cute. The EP is available digitally on iTunes & Spotify.
Brisbane’s indie soul songstress Bec Laughton may not be a household name just yet, but this tiny redhead has a monstrous voice and a knack for penning a killer pop hook. Trained in jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and with a heart for soul music, this young songbird brings to life music of old with her own quirky fresh touch. Bec is soon to take over stages around Australia for her ‘Darkest Love’ tour and an EP is also on its way, demonstrating her ability in hard hitting soul can venture from sweeping ballads to R&B tracks you can’t help but dance to. A sneaky taster of what this pocket rocket has to offer is her tour title track, ‘Darkest Love’. With a recent performance at Red Deer Music and Arts Festival, a QMA Award and finalist position in the International Songwriting Competition, we are bound to hear her name more and more.
Vance Joy is Melbourne based singer and songwriter James Keogh. Growing up on a diet of The Pogues, Paul Kelly and whatever else was playing on his parent’s record player, he first cut his musical teeth at open mike nights in and around Melbourne. Word of his gift quickly spread and now James has landed himself a five-album deal with US music industry giant Atlantic Records. At times raw and strong, at others sleek and heavenly, his voice will wrap you in its grace and sweep you away; his honest, evocative lyrics will hold you there. We suggest checking out his Debut EP ‘God Loves You When You’re Dancing’ which is out now.
In recent years, singer-songwriter, Russian Red (Lourdes Hernández) has become one of the most significant artists of the Spanish indie music scene. 2008 saw the release her first official album, 'I Love Your Glasses', which was jam packed with lovely acoustic-folk based tunes. Then a few years later in 2011, Russian Red returned with her second album 'Fuerteventura' - an equally amazing record. With beautiful lyrics, an exceptional voice and innate ability to transmit and excite her audience, we are almost certain we'll be seeing more from her in the future. Have a listen here.
Melbourne's garage-rock gods, The Fearless Vampire Killers have made quite a mark on our local and national music scene. With an explosive live set and their famous house party gigs, it's no surprise that the guys have been hand picked to play with the likes of The Mars Volta, Kasabian and The Hives.
'Mexico' is the first single from the bands forthcoming sophomore LP which is due out next year and if it's anything to go off, we think the LP will be a gooden! Lead guitarist Al Marx describes the single as “an upbeat western-rock ditty documenting the neglected desire of a fading man to travel to his childhood dreamland of Mexico”. Mexico is available now on iTunes and you can check the website for tour dates and other shenanigans. Brisbane’s Hungry Kids of Hungary have been busy at Albert’s Studios in Sydney recording their second album with producer Wayne Connolly (Josh Pyke, The Vines, You Am I, Silverchair), the follow-up for 2010’s much-acclaimed debut Escapades. The album, signed to Rough Trade in the Benelux, has experienced remarkable success in that region and paved the way for their first major international festival appearance at Pinkpop in the Netherlands earlier this month. The festival – also featuring Bruce Springsteen, The Cure, Soundgarden, The Wombats, The Hives, Miike Snow, Bombay Bicycle Club, Linkin Park, Mumford & Sons amongst many – also opened the door to a full European and UK tour that included the band’s first shows in the likes of Paris, Germany and Belgium. High fives all 'round, we think!
Tigertown are a six-piece group based in Sydney, Australia with a melodic and unique sound that is bursting with playful percussion and rich, harmony-soaked arrangements. With a strong family connection between the members, it's no surprise that a deep intimacy and maturity shines through in their songs. Their latest single ‘Lions and Witches’ delivers a whole new dimension to the band’s developing sound and we absolutely love it. To decide for yourselves, check out the video here and keep up to date with the groups gigs and news via their facebook page.
Brisbane indie-folk quintet Art of Sleeping has quickly made their way into our hearts with their chilling vocal melodies and cinematic percussion. Their recent release 'Empty Hands' is such a beautiful and powerful track and the video is equally fantastic. Art of Sleeping will be embarking as the main support on Owl Eyes’ ‘Crystalised’ tour on May 18th in Adelaide, before the run extends to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast throughout the second half of May. Tickets are currently on-sale, so pop to it!
