Melbourne photographic artists: Damien Melchiori, Luke Pownall, Tim Regard and Michael Thomas aim to challenge the viewer and raise questions such as "Who are we? How do we live, try, succeed, fail and die? What motivates us to learn, interact, change and progress, and ultimately, how do we justify our existence?" in their group exhibition entitled "The World is Stable now, People are Happy", at E55.

The photographic works included in this exhibition are the product of four minds that began to take notice. As students, workers and citizens of the world, their home town of Melbourne initialised the approach while the greater global community aided in informing the outcome. Although these four artists have come from varied backgrounds, their love of film and the art of chemical photography has brought them together and provided an avenue to take a discourse of their environment and represent it visually. The questions being raised and the works being exhibited are one and the same, insofar as these artists could be asking: this is what we see, we know you see it too, so what can we do? But then again: "The world is stable now, people are happy"

Introducing Melbourne photographer, Luke Pownall. Primarily shooting with a Mamiya 645E and a Pentax ME Super Luke documents his life and the people around him in a way that leaves you feeling like you were right there with him, in each moment captured. It comes as no surprise that artists like Ed Templeton and Sem Rubio are two major influences on Luke's practice when you look at his black and white images. Make sure you check out his portfolio here to see more of his work and keep up to date.
